Fresh COVID Vaccine Stock Arrives in AP, Karnataka May 10, 2021, 11:30 IST
Ever since the third phase of vaccination drive begun all over the country, many states have withheld the process due to lack of vaccine dosages. However, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh received fresh stocks of COVID-19 vaccines.
The Andhra Pradesh Government stated that they had received 3.6 lakh doses of the Covishield vaccine. Karnataka Health Minister Sudhakar informed that the state had received 3.5 lakh doses of the same on Saturday night.
Taking to Twitter, Sudhakar wrote, In the order placed by Karnataka government to procure 2 crore doses of Covishield, we received 3.5 lakh doses on Saturday night taking the total delivery to 6.5 lakh doses. So far GoI has supplied 1,10,49,470 doses including 99,58,190 doses of Covishield and 10,91,280 doses of Covaxin.

BENGALURU: Countering a growing demand for a national lockdown, Dr V Ravi, noted virologist and member, Covid Expert Committee, Karnataka, said that India does not need one at this stage of the pandemic, when some states have started plateauing and some are witnessing a late surge.“A lockdown should be enforced in a state based on scientific data of cases in the past month. A national lockdown at a time when states are at varied degree of the surge is neither a solution nor is advisable,” said Dr Ravi, countering the claim of an aggressive national lockdown by top US medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci.

Government swings into action as hospitals send out alarms on oxygen shortage
As Karnataka is facing multifold increases in demand for oxygen, the State government has issued guidelines for rationalising use of oxygen in Covid-19 hospitals.
“The data of the consumption of oxygen by the hospitals treating Covid-19 patients has revealed that there is an indiscriminate and wasteful use of oxygen in many hospitals. An optimal use of oxygen needs to be ensured both for better healthcare of the patient as well as the curtailment of wastage of oxygen as it is a scarce resource,” Jawaid Akhtar, Karnataka additional chief secretary, department of health and family welfare said in a circular.

A COVID Care Centre was opened at the Beedi Workers’ Hospital at Kalyanagiri in Mysuru on Tuesday.
Minister in charge of Mysuru district S.T. Somashekar, who was present at the inauguration, assured to improve the facilities at Beedi Workers’ Hospital so that the facility is made use by people residing in Narasimharaja Assembly segment not only for treatment of COVID-19, but also for other ailments in future.
Regretting the neglected state of the hospital, Mr Somashekar assured to bring Health Minister Sudhakar to the facility on his next visit for a spot inspection so that developmental programmes can be chalked out.
