Following an alarming surge in covid cases, Karnataka will officially go into ‘lockdown’ from Tuesday night till May 12. Though the CM stopped short of calling it a lockdown, the curbs make it impossible for people to move on the streets. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that
grocery and other essential shops will be allowed to function only between 6 am to 10 am, a drastic deviation from last year’s lockdown when neighbourhood shops were allowed to function for most parts of the day.

New Delhi, Apr 27: India on Tuesday reported 3,23,144 new coronavirus infections, the lowest since April 21. This is the sixth day in arow that India reported over 3 lakh single-day Covid cases.
The country also saw a 2,771 deaths over a 24-hour period.
India s total tally of Covid-19 cases has climbed to 1,76,36,307 while active casesare nearing the 29-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.
The death toll increased to 1,97,894 with 2,771 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 28,82,204 comprising 16.34 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 82.54 per cent.

Bengaluru, Apr 26: Karnataka on Monday announced a two-week lockdown in view of the worsening Covid-19 situation in the state.
The lockdown will begin on April 27 at 10 pm, with grocery stores allowed to open from 6 am to 10 am during those days.
Speaking on the announcement of the lockdown, Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa said home delivery of food will be allowed and liquor shops will operate for takeaways only. However, exact details on availability of liquor is still awaited.
“Grocery and other essential shops will be operational from 6 am to 10 am every day. That’s the only relaxation. After 10 am, all shops will be closed,” Yediyurappa said, adding that this will be applicable across Karnataka.

In the last two weeks, Bengaluru hospitals have seen horrifying cases of COVID deaths due to the lack of oxygen supply. One such case was that of 35-year-old Subramanya. The first hospital Subramanya was admitted to was running out of oxygen, and for a long time, he was unable to find an ICU bed in another hospital. He was eventually admitted to Prashanth Hospital near Bommanahalli, but his oxygen saturation level had deteriorated so much that he couldn’t be saved.
