Four new coronavirus cases have been uncovered in Melbourne

Four new COVID-19 cases have been uncovered among a family in Melbourne s north. Health Minister Martin Foley confirmed two more people had returned positive coronavirus test results, adding to the two other cases revealed earlier on Monday. Health authorities were alerted to the cluster after a Whittlesea man presented for testing on Sunday. He and an asymptomatic male relative from a separate household both tested positive.  A woman and young child in the family of the Whittlesea man have also been confirmed as COVID positive. Mr Foley said there was no indication the COVID-positive family members were linked to any exposure sites visited by a Victorian man who contracted coronavirus in hotel quarantine in South Australia.

The first case was a man who showed symptoms of the coronavirus on 20 May. He got tested two days later on 23 May. A male relative went with him when he got tested, and that person - who was not showing symptoms - had also tested positive, Foley said. Both live in Whittlesea, in Melbourne s outer north. Two other relatives, a woman and a preschool-aged child, were also tested and returned positive results.

Despite four new community cases of Covid-19 in Melbourne, New Zealand will not be suspending flights to the Victorian capital, the Ministry of Health has announced. However, testing and isolation will be required for those who have been in any of the locations of interest in Melbourne - including those who have travelled back to New Zealand in recent days. The confirmation of new Covid-19 cases in Melbourne has sent thousands of people in Australia into isolation for two weeks as authorities concede there may be a missing link between the new outbreak and a positive case in the city a fortnight ago.
