Mumbai on Monday reported less than 2000 cases as 1,794 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. With 74 fatalities, the city s death toll has climbed to 13,891 with a total caseload of 6,78,269 cases. The metropolis now has a recovery rate of 91 per cent and is left with 45,534 active cases. Amid the shortage of COVID-19 vaccine in the state, the Maharashtra government will now vaccinate only people above 45 years of age, informed state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday.
This means that there will be no vaccination for the 18-44 age group till further notice. Tope said that a discussion is going on with CM Uddhav Thackeray to procure more vaccines. Speaking to NDTV, he said that the govt is slowing the process of vaccination for the 18-44 age group as there is a shortage of vaccines. We don t want to stop, but right now we have no vaccines, so we will be giving vaccines right now to 45+ only, Tope said.

The Maharashtra government is mulling on extending the ongoing lockdown-like restrictions in the state till May 31, even though nearly 37,000 coronavirus cases were reported since yesterday, the lowest spike in 41 days.
The extended lockdown is expected to be as strict as it is currently, although in districts where a surge is being witnessed, harsher restrictions might be imposed. The decision is likely to be made by the state cabinet on Wednesday, according to reports.

There will, however, be no stopping the vaccination process, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said. We are slowing down the process (of vaccination) for 18-44 because we don t have vaccines.
