Ohio residents who get jabbed with the coronavirus vaccine are eligible for a state lottery that will award five $1 million awards.
Coronavirus vaccinations have spiked in Ohio, where the governor recently announced the Vax-a-Million lottery, which will hand out five $1 million payments to winning residents who have been jabbed.
State health officials said this week that more than 25,400 COVID-19 vaccine shots had been given just two days after Mike DeWine, the Ohio governor, announced the vaccine lottery. That accounted for the highest coronavirus vaccine day in three weeks.
The biggest vaccination boost occurred in Ohio residents aged 30 to 74, which spiked by 6% after weeks of steadily declining due to vaccine hesitancy.

Amen, and overdue. While adults finally get to strip off their masks, restrictions on children are remaining in place even though they are much less vulnerable to COVID-19, especially for serious acute infections. Bloomberg science columnist Faye Flam accuses the adults of using kids to protect themselves, and declares that enough is enough:
So while adults may celebrate going back to their normal lives, we’re still asking kids to observe all the rules of pandemic life.
They’ve been taken out of school or made to take extraordinary precautions there, isolated from their friends, deprived of many sports and other activities, and made to endure mask-wearing and social distancing, even outside. Add to that the hardships their families have faced from the economic disruption caused by the pandemic.
The vaccine-hesitant may have their price. Hundreds of thousands of Ohio’s 11 million residents flooded the registration website and phone lines for the state’s Vax-a-Million program, which will award $1 million to five lucky vaccinated people who enter a lottery and give scholarships to winners under age 18.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - On the first day for Ohioans to register for the Vax-a-Million scholarships and the $1 million giveaway, more than 60,000 calls rang into the Ohio Department of Health call center, the website had more than 25 million page views and hundreds of thousands of Ohioans had entered the drawing.
For security purposes, state officials won’t release the exact number of entrants until Monday, according to a joint statement by the Ohio Lottery and Ohio Department of Health.
