EmPOWERED Women Roundtable virtual event: Building Mental Resilience for Women of Color in the Midst of COVID-19 In collaboration with the Association s Go Red for Women® movement, EmPOWERED to Serve™ will host an hour-long EmPOWERED Women Roundtable virtual event:  Building Mental Resilience for Women of Color in the Midst of COVID-19, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST/5 p.m. PST. The livestreamed event is free and open to the public. Attendees can register at the EmPOWERED to Serve website. The EmPOWERED to Serve platform harnesses the passion of individuals and organizations to overcome barriers to health equity.  Moderator Lorisa Bates, vice president of programming content strategy, co-productions and multiplatform at Black Entertainment Television (BET), will center the conversation around strategies and resources to promote mental and emotional well-being, resiliency and healing among Black and brown women.

KUALA LUMPUR: Escalating stress levels in this age of rapid changes and personal uncertainty can, over time, lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, hypertension and mental disorders. In Malaysia, statistics have shown that the economically disadvantaged group is more susceptible to depression brought about by financial hardship and other pressing challenges. According to the 2019 National Health and Morbidity Survey, 2.3 percent of Malaysia’s adult population, or half a million people, suffered from depression. Putrajaya had the highest prevalence of depression at 5.4 percent, followed by Negeri Sembilan (five percent), Perlis (4.3 percent), Sabah (four percent) and Melaka (3.8 percent).

Single-Payer Reform and Rural Health in the United States: Lessons from Our Northern Neighbor Abstract Single-payer health reform has secured its place in the mainstream American health policy debate, yet its implications for particular subpopulations or sectors of care remain understudied. Amidst many unanswered questions from policymakers and political pundits, rural health has emerged as one such area. This article explores rural Canada’s five-decade-long experience with a national publicly funded health insurance program as a valuable opportunity for cross-national learning. During March 2020, I conducted 13 semi-structured, elite stakeholder interviews with government officials, academic researchers, rural hospital executives, public health association leaders, rural health administrators, and representatives from provincial medical, hospital, and physician associations in Ontario.
