‘Include elderly and sick inmates in vaccine priority list’
By ANNE MARXZE D. UMIL
MANILA – Elderly and sick persons who have been deprived of liberty (PDL) should be included in the government’s priority vaccination list.
This was the contention of a human rights group adding that these groups are also most at risk of contracting the novel coronavirus.
“We ask that they be placed in the A-2 and A-3 priority classifications, in the same way that seniors and those with co-morbidities, respectively, are placed in those categories,” said Fides Lim, spokesperson of Kapatid, a support group of families and friends of political prisoners.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 21) The Department of Health has changed the way it reports the number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 so the daily recovery tally is unusually high starting this week.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Wednesday said they have shifted to daily time-based tagging of recoveries instead of the usual reporting of mass recoveries on Sundays dubbed Oplan Recovery.
She said the change follows Health Secretary Francisco Duque s order to ensure accuracy of data.

Published April 20, 2021 10:08am The Department of Health (DOH) will now push for the daily logging of time-based recoveries of COVID-19 patients, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Tuesday. In an interview with Dobol B TV, Vergeire explained that the huge number of COVID-19 recoveries on Monday and in the last two Sundays were due to the DOH’s time-based logging mechanism which they release every week. Vergeire disclosed that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III instructed them to give a “more comprehensive” report on the recoveries in DOH’s daily COVID-19 case bulletin. “Gusto niya araw-araw na po namin gagawin at ilalabaas ‘to kaya nag-umpisa po tayo kahapon. Makikita natin, we had 9,266 that is for yesterday po na recoveries,” she said.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 18) The rise of community pantries in different parts of the country can be considered a desperate call for help amid the pandemic, said Senator Panfilo Lacson on Sunday.
Lacson lauded such an initiative amid the health crisis, but noted it s a sign that people can no longer rely on the government to put food on the table.
“It is good that through community pantries, we see mutual aid by neighbors and barangay residents. But this is also a sign of desperation, that people can no longer rely on government to help them,” said Lacson in a radio interview.
