SINGAPORE - After a period of success in containing Covid-19 infections, some countries in Asia are once again beating back an emergence of Covid-19 that has infected over 130 million people worldwide and killed nearly 3 million.
While mass vaccination drives have started for most countries worldwide, Asian nations such as India and the Philippines have found themselves back in lockdown and imposing even stricter measures, as they face an increasing number of new infections daily.
India, which is grappling with its second wave of infections, saw record increases of new cases, with more than 100,000 daily on at least four days last week.

Roque, who recently ended his quarantine after testing negative for the virus, asked for prayers as he cited the need to take “extra precaution” in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.
“I am now admitted in a hospital for Covid treatment. This is to say that COVID-19 is more transmissible now so we have to do extra precaution,” he said in a statement Saturday, April 10.
“I am asking for your sincerest prayers to all afflicted with Covid 19 in the country and around the world. God bless and protect us all,” he added.
Roque first confirmed that he tested positive for the coronavirus disease on March 15. He went on isolation at a treatment facility and later at a rented place.

“He is really the one in the hot seat in terms of command responsibility,” Hontiveros said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel on April 7.
The opposition said this as she attributed the Philippines’ current “sorry state” to the way leaders in the IATF address the pandemic.
“I’m sorry, but the sorry state we are in right now ay dahil sa napakamahina at di mahusay na pandemic response sa pamumuno ng IATF (is because of the very poor and ineffective pandemic response of the IATF leadership),” she lamented.
