We could run out of Covid-19 vaccines by the end of January unless more are approved, Jeremy Hunt warned STOCKS of coronavirus vaccine could run out at the end of January unless new ones such as the Oxford jab are approved, a former minister has warned. Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt said if the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was approved soon it would make a “massive difference” because current stocks of the Pfizer jab will run out at the end of January. His comments come amid reports the Oxford vaccine could be approved before the new year, with the Daily Telegraph reporting senior Whitehall sources believe the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) will authorise it on December 28 or 29.
According to a 2007 Times profile, Dido Harding was “known as an accomplished networker”. Since then Harding’s big breakthroughs, culminating in her key government Coronavirus role, came from people close to David Cameron. Harding went to Oxford with Cameron. In 1995 Harding married John Penrose, who became a Tory MP in 2005 and a junior Minister under Cameron in 2010.
Harding worked at management consultants McKinsey (where she met Penrose) and then at retail firms like Tesco. Her big leap came in 2010 when Harding was the “surprise” choice as Chief Executive of mobile and broadband firm Talk Talk.
Charles Dunstone was the billionaire behind Talk Talk backing Harding’s appointment: he was a former “New Labour”-supporting businessman, but switched allegiance to Cameron (who attended his 2009 wedding). Dunstone became a key member of Cameron’s “Chipping Norton Set.”

A proposed motion at Lichfield District Council on the performance of local health organisations has been branded “disgraceful”.
Cllr Alan White made his comments at a meeting of the local authority last night (15th December).

The motion had been put forward by Labour representative Cllr Colin Ball stating:
“This council deplores the very poor performance of the two Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) covering our district, with South East Staffordshire CCG, recorded as ‘Inadequate’ for the past three years, and East Staffordshire CCG performing slightly better, moving from ‘Good’ to ‘Requires Improvement’ over the last year, and resolves to write to our two local MPs, asking them what they personally have done over that period to push for improvements and what else they will do personally in the future.

The roll out of the biggest vaccination programme in the history of the UK is under way. This week, some GP practices in England will join the major hospitals in starting to offer the jab.
The plan is to immunise all over-50s plus younger adults with underlying health conditions. The rest of the population could then follow suit. But how long will all this take?
Do we have enough vaccine?
Vaccinating 55 million people - children are not being considered for the jab at this stage - is a mammoth task. It will take many months, perhaps the best part of a year.
