A healthcare worker administers a Covid-19 vaccine in Jerusalem Across Britain, thousands of pensioners have received bewildering letters from the NHS, asking them to drive for up to 45 minutes to receive a coronavirus vaccine. The letters are often delayed, do not arrive at all, or may even land on the doorstep of someone who has passed away.  But 3,000 miles away in Israel, a radically different approach has led to 20 per cent of the population receiving the jab – and without healthcare workers needing to lick a single envelope. The paperless system uses a text messaging service, mobile phone app and a cohort of multilingual health workers to badger patients into booking a vaccine appointment as soon as possible.

Work with traditional rulers to end insecurity - Emir Umar tells govt

The Emir of Awe in Nasarawa State, Alh. Isah Abubakar Umar has submitted that traditional rulers have great roles to play in ensuring the security of lives and property in the country. The monarch disclosed this during a condolence visit to the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Maj. Sanusi Muhammad Asha, (rtd) whose eight aides were killed by suspected terrorists in December, last year. The monarch, therefore, appealed to the federal government and security agencies to always include traditional rulers in the scheme of things as critical stakeholders in security, adding that they should be accorded adequate support to play their constitutional role in addressing the insecurity ravaging the country.

COVID-19 second wave: Virus spreading fast with mild symptoms - NCDC alerts Nigerians

The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has warned that the Coronavirus pandemic is spreading fast, causing mild symptoms in some victims and severe illnesses and death in others. Ihekweazu disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. He said that many victims have continued to experience fatigue and other symptoms, even after recovery. According to him, in the last four weeks, the country has recorded a spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases. “We have now reported over 100,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, and this is a stark reminder of the reality we live in now.
