Sixty-two new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Kildare today, out of a national total of 1,254. Forty-eight further deaths were notified to the Health Protection Surveillance centre, 45 of which occurred in January. The median age of those who died is 82 years and the age range is 30-99 years.
Of the cases notified today: 587 are men / 658 are women; 54% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 42 years old.
Some 437 cases occurred in Dublin, 146 in Cork, 76 in Meath, 69 in Wexford, 62 in Kildare and the remaining 464 cases are spread across all other counties.

A CLAIM SHARED on Twitter and Facebook says that the lack of deaths and hospitalisations from flu is because cases are being diagnosed as Covid-19 instead.
The theory has been propagated by Niall Boylan, a presenter at Classic Hits radio station.
In a post on Twitter in recent weeks, which has also been shared widely on Facebook, Boylan wrote that “we would normally have thousands hospitalised and many influenza related deaths [at this point of the year], yet this year we have none at all

A FURTHER 102 cases of Covid-19 in Limerick have been reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.
The HPSC has also today sadly been notified of 77 additional deaths related to Covid-19 in Ireland.
76 of these deaths occurred in January, 1 in December.
The median age of those who died is 84 years and the age range is 43-98 years.
As of midnight, Friday, the HPSC has been notified of 1,910 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the state. Of the cases notified today:
