LATEST: 54 new cases of Covid-19 in Kildare today; 970 nationwide Tuesday, December 22, 2020   ); Fifty-four new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Kildare today, out of 970 notified nationally to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. There have been 13 further deaths from the virus reported this evening. Of the cases notified today; 470 are men /494 are women; 64% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 37 years old. Some 348 cases are in Dublin, 60 in Limerick, 59 in Cork, 59 in Wexford, 55 in Louth and the remaining 389 cases are spread across 20 other counties.  As of 2pm today, 238 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 28 are in ICU. 23 additional hospitalisations have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Six additional deaths were notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. Of the cases notified today, 310 are men / 265 are women; 60% are under 45 years of age and the median age is 38 years old. Some 193 cases are in Dublin, 59 in Wexford, 47 in Louth, 42 in Meath, 34 in Cork and the remaining 207 cases are spread all other remaining counties.   As of 2pm today, 198 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 34 are in ICU. 13 additional hospitalisations have occurred in the past 24 hours.

Covid-19 rate doubles in one area of Offaly in last week Reporter: );   ); The Covid-19 Incidence Rate for one area in Offaly exactly doubled in last seven days according to the latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. After falling for four consecutive weeks, the 14 Day Incidence Rate per 100,000 of population has jumped from 34.3 last week to 68.6 this week with 16 new cases in the last two weeks.  However that is still well behind the Tullamore Area of the county where the rate remains high at 116.6 per 100,000 for the last 14 days, the same as it was last week. There have been 34 new cases in the area in the last 14 days.

Covid cases in Waterford double last week

The number of cases of Covid-19 doubled in Waterford last week. That’s according to the latest epidemiology report by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. It shows that 58 cases were confirmed in Waterford from the 6th to the 12th of December. That’s up from 26 cases the week before. The 7-day incidence rate went from 22.4 to 49.9. The median age of cases in Waterford increased to 39 and was split equally between males and females. Characteristics of confirmed COVID-19 cases by county notified in Ireland, during week 50. Kilkenny had the highest incidence rate in the country last week. 111 cases were confirmed there giving an incidence rate of 111.9
