CDC cites Kentucky nursing home COVID-19 outbreak in vaccination push

An outbreak of COVID-19 at a Kentucky nursing home where most residents were vaccinated is cited in a new federal study as an example of why it is imperative that more staff get vaccinated as new variants of the virus emerge. The study, released Wednesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found 18 residents and four workers at the nursing home who had been vaccinated tested positive for COVID-19 after an unvaccinated worker brought a variant, or new strain of the virus, into the facility. In all, 46 cases were identified at the nursing home in 26 residents and 20 workers. Three residents who contracted COVID-19 died, two of whom had not been vaccinated, the study said.
