COVID CASES IN NW LA- According to the latest data from the Louisiana Department of Health – there’s been an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in eight of ten Northwest Louisiana parishes over the past two weeks dating to Sunday May 23rd. The most populated parishes – Caddo and Bossier showed Covid case increases of 12% and 35% respectively. The only northwest Louisiana parish to show a decrease in COVID-19 cases for the 14-day period was DeSoto Parish with a 4% drop.
The increase in COVID-19 cases in the area comes just days after LSU Health Shreveport s Center for Emerging Viral Threats identified two specimens that were B.1.617.2 variants in the area, often referred as the “The Indian Variant” and is believed to be more transmissible than earlier variants.

BOSSIER CITY, La. Thousands now have their shot of the vaccine after the largest single-day vaccination effort in northwest Louisiana to date. Saturday s clinic at Brookshire s Grocery Arena was a partnership between LSU Health Shreveport and Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. They provided the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, and those who turned out are considered fully vaccinated since it only requires one dose. It s a great new tool in our toolbox to fight the pandemic, said Dr. John Vanchiere, a professor of pediatrics & infectious disease at LSU Health Shreveport.

SHREVEPORT, La. With the announcement that beginning Monday eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine expands to a different age bracket, LSU Health Shreveportâs Center of Excellence for Emerging Viral Threats has added four new locations for COVID-19 vaccinations in addition to its drive-thru site in Shreveport
Those eligible to receive the vaccinations can do so in one day only next week in Arcadia, Mansfield, Natchitoches and Minden. More dates have been added for Shreveport, too.
Eligibility for Louisiana residents has dropped to include ages 65 and older.Â
Some Unified Command Group members, state COVID emergency response personnel, local emergency response personnel, law enforcement, first responders and elections workers for the upcoming March and April elections will also be eligible, according to Gov. John Bel Edwards on Thursday. LSU Health s news release on Friday does not address those groups.Â
