Fort Smith Times Record The Delta variant of COVID-19 presents another roadblock for the country as it tries to put the pandemic past it. The variant is believed to already be in every county of Arkansas. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Delta variant is classified as a “variant of concern because it shows an increase in transmissibility and can cause more hospitalizations and deaths.   Danyelle McNeill, public information officer for the Arkansas Department of Health, said they have reason to believe the Delta variant is in all of Arkansas  counties. “The time it takes to receive the sequence of a test specimen to determine if it is a variant of concern is about three weeks. For that reason, it is not possible to state whether or not a variant is currently spreading in a county in real-time, McNeill explained.
