Choosing to celebrate the holidays away from Malacañang, the President recognized that spending Christmas with one’s loved ones has been a tradition for Filipinos.
“Mga kababayan ko malapit na ang Pasko kaya ako naman nandito sa Davao because alam ninyo na taga-Davao ako at dito ‘yung pamilya ko (My countrymen, Christmas is near so I am in Davao because you know I am from Davao and my family is here),” Duterte said in a televised address Monday night.

The President bewailed the annual cases of firecracker-related injuries and how its makers have long skirted responsibility for their products due to lack of labels and warnings. As a result, the government is having difficulty running after these companies in case of injuries during the New Year’s Eve revelry, Duterte said.

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte late Monday night condemned the “brutal” death of a mother and son in Tarlac in the hands of a policeman, saying the latter should rot in jail.
In a taped speech, Duterte said that he was shocked after watching the viral video of the Tarlac shooting incident shown to him by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.

The President said any sale and use of the mining explosives must have the clearance of the police as well as the military assigned in the area. The commander-in-chief sought the tighter supervision on such explosive use after raising concern that communist rebels have used these items in their attacks against government troops.
