Riverside County bars will have to wait at least two more weeks before opening indoors, as the county s COVID-19 metrics improved slightly Tuesday but still remained above the threshold for lifting more business restrictions.
The county reported a case rate of 2.5 new daily COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents compared to last week s 2.8. The county s positivity rate is 1.5% and its positivity among at-risk populations is 1.6%, Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari said during a Board of Supervisors meeting.
Last week s positivity rate was 1.6% and positivity among at-risk populations was 1.9%.
The county has been in the orange tier of the state s four-tiered, color-coded reopening framework since April 6. In order to move into the least-restrictive yellow tier, a county needs to report fewer than two daily new cases per day, a positivity rate less than 2% and less than 2.2% positivity among at-risk populations, for two consecutive weeks.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA Each Tuesday, the California Department of Public Health updates COVID-19 positivity and case rates by county as part of its Blueprint for a Safer Economy. The framework determines what color tier each county is in.
For the first time, Orange County moved into the least restrictive yellow tier, but Riverside County did not budge. Instead, Riverside County s COVID-19 case rate edged up slightly over the previous week, while its positivity rate remained flat.
Orange County joins only Los Angeles County in Southern California in the yellow tier assignment, which allows for expanded reopenings in the two counties.

California is set to lift most restrictions on
June 15. On Monday, California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly announced that the state will implement the CDC s new face covering guidance starting June 15. This means vaccinated people will no longer need to wear masks in most situations.

Riverside County shows progress in closing COVID vaccination gap in Latinx community
Riverside County Public Health has worked hard to narrow the coronavirus vaccination gap among the Latinx community.
It is a group who make up about half the population here.
News Channel 3’s Dani Romero takes a closer look at the progress in closing those disparities.
“I am feeling good, said Alexia Mendez. She got her second shot at a pop-up clinic in Coachella.
“I think it is important to be vaccinated, said Mendez.
It s one of the many efforts the county has made to help bridge the gap in communities of color who were significantly impacted by the virus.
