Travis Walker has been hired as the new police chief of Santa Paula
SANTA PAULA, Calif. Travis Walker, Santa Paula s new police chief, began his new career in Ventura County on Monday.
Walker takes over for a city that has been without a permanent chief for a prolonged period of time.
“We went through an extensive recruitment process,” said Daniel Singer, who is the Santa Paula City Manager. “We ended up with 19 qualified applicants which is a pretty good showing for us.”
Santa Barbara, Port Hueneme, and San Gabriel police chief serve on the panel to help narrow the decision down to three finalists.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - An ex-minor league baseball player who killed his father, uncle and a bystander with a bat in Corona was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A Riverside jury in November convicted 27-year-old Brandon Willie Martin of three counts of first-degree murder and found true a special- circumstance allegation of taking multiple lives in the same crime, and convicted him of one count each of auto theft, evading arrest, obstructing a peace officer and injuring a police canine.
Superior Court Judge Samuel Diaz scheduled her sentencing hearing for March 12 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. She s being held without bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
Diaz found there was sufficient evidence to warrant a trial for Bush, the alleged triggerman, and Grandison on charges of first-degree murder and three counts of armed robbery. The judge additionally held Bush alone to answer to a special circumstance allegation of killing in the course of a robbery.
Diaz scheduled a post-preliminary hearing arraignment for Feb. 9 at the downtown Riverside courthouse.
Bush and Grandison are both being held at the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Bush without bail, and his co-defendant in lieu of $1 million bail.

SANTA PAULA, Calif. - The City of Santa Paula has hired a new police chief. Travis Walker will take over as the city s chief of police on Feb. 1.
Walker has several years of experience as a chief of police, but he brings with him some accusations of malfeasance.
Walker began his career with the San Bernardino Police Department where he worked a variety of assignments including patrol, narcotics, gangs and various detective and managerial roles throughout his nearly 20-year career. He also served as the Tactical Commander during the 2015 San Bernardino terror attack.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - A beloved grandmother was killed last weekend in a random act of cowardice to one of our more vulnerable community members, Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez said in a statement Thursday.
Sixto Jesus Garcia Pena, 19, of Palm Springs, was booked Wednesday on charges of murder, home invasion robbery and burglary in connection with the death of 78-year-old Denise Irene Wong, of Riverside.

Investigators said that on the evening of Jan. 6, police officers responded to a home in the 200 block of E. Manfield Street, to check the welfare of an elderly resident. Wong s out of town family members had called authorities to check on her because she lived by herself and was not answering their calls.
