Awarded to innovators, businesses, academics and heavy industry, the investment will accelerate the delivery of the technologies needed to further drive Britain’s climate change ambitions, while creating over 60,000 jobs across the UK.
The funding package will develop technologies in carbon capture, greenhouse gas removal and hydrogen, while also helping find solutions to decarbonise the UK’s polluting sectors including manufacturing, steel, energy and waste.
It will help put the UK at the forefront of the green technologies of the future, while supporting British industries to lowers costs, remain competitive and protect jobs as they improve their energy efficiency and transition to a green economy.
UK s ultra-rapid EV charging stock to triple with new £300m funding package
The UK s energy networks have jointly pledged a further £300m in funding for low-carbon technologies across 200 projects, including almost 1,800 new ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
A statement from Ofgem this morning (24 May) revealed that the regulator is working with seven of the UK’s largest gas and electricity networks to raise and allocate the new funding, which builds on the £40bn of investment already confirmed for infrastructure and technologies this financial year.
More than 200 projects will be supported by the funding, including low-carbon heat networks; hydrogen heating trials; biofuel for HGVs and charging infrastructure for electric planes, air taxis and drones.

Ofgem delivers £300 million down payment to rewire Britain
£300 million investment for over 200 low carbon projects to get Britain ready for more electric transport and heat.
New infrastructure to support 1,800 new ultra-rapid charging points at motorway service areas.
Part of a broader investment programme for safe, secure and clean energy, with £40 billion confirmed already and more to follow in 2022.
Ofgem is today powering the electric vehicle revolution, with motorway service areas and key trunk road locations across the country set to get the cabling they need to install 1,800 new ultra-rapid charge points, tripling the current network.
Click the thumbs up >Ofgem – the Government’s energy regulator – has announced a £300 million funding package for 200-plus net-zero schemes over the next two years.
The investment recognises that Britain’s cables, substations and other infrastructure need a massive upgrade to support this new demand for electricity as more people swap their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles for electric power.
Ofgem says that 39 motorway service areas and key trunk roads in England, Scotland and Wales, will get the cabling they need to install 1,800 new ultra-rapid charge points, tripling the current network.
A further 1,750 charge points will be supported in towns and cities.

Ofgem, the energy regulator, has approved 17 net zero projects worth around £12 million across Wales. These shovel-ready, low carbon projects start this year, supporting clean transport and heat, and opening up local electricity grids to take on more low carbon generation. This is part of £300.5 million investment approved by Ofgem for net zero projects across Britain. Three key motorway service areas on the M4 and key trunk road locations across Wales will get the cabling they need to install over 500 new public charge points, including 71 new ultra-rapid charge points. Currently just 0.17 per cent of vehicles used in Wales are electric.
