A tornado was spotted east of High River and a Calgary high school was struck by lightning as thunderstorms rolled across southern Alberta on Saturday afternoon. An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued for the tornado just past 2 p.m. Saturday. The twister was spotted just east of High River and moving toward the east, the alert said. An evacuation order for some residents of Parkland County due to a wildfire has been lifted as of 11 a.m. Saturday.
Parkland County’s director of emergency management, Brian Cornforth, advised the imminent danger from the wildfire for those in the area between Highway 22 and Range Road 63 and between Township Road 510 and Township Road 524 has diminished.

The evacuation order for this area has been rescinded and replaced with an evacuation alert. Residents who live in the impacted area should be prepared to evacuate with limited notice should conditions change and an evacuation order is reissued.
EDMONTON A wildfire in Lac La Biche County that firefighters have been battling for over 24 hours is now nearly contained. The Alberta Emergency Alert for residents in Lac La Biche County was ended Friday evening after the wildfire burning near Township Road 652 and Range Road 165, north of the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement along Highway 855) was almost contained. According to the alert, 90 per cent of the wildfire is contained and it is no longer spreading. “If fire conditions change another alert will be issued,” the alert read. Lac La Biche County tweeted that while the fire is currently not spreading, weather conditions could change the situation.

At 1:36 am this morning, an Alberta Emergency Alert was issued for Parkland County because of a growing wildfire west of Edmonton.
