Lucas man dies in crash on Route 603

Ashland Times Gazette MIFFLIN TWP.  A 23-year-old Lucas man died late Saturday night when he failed to negotiate a curve on state Route 603 and his vehicle partially overturned and struck a ditch. Alexander C. Switzer was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Ashland Post of the State Highway Patrol, which notes the crash happened about 11 p.m. near Mile Post 2. Switzer was driving a Ford Mustang southbound on Route 603. A 23-year-old passenger, of Mansfield, was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield with non-life threatening injuries, according to the release. State Route 603 was closed for about two hours.

Police roundup: Ohio man charged for targeting a minor

ASHLAND — Law enforcement groups in Ashland tracked down and arrested a man accused of attempting to meet with and supply drugs to a minor. Michael Wirzfield, 41, of Ironton was located by police last Friday and taken into custody during a traffic stop at the entrance of Crabbe Elementary School in Ashland’s Central Park by several law enforcement units. He was charged with prohibited use of electronic communication to procure a minor for sex offenses, possession of marijuana, possession drug paraphernalia and unlawful transaction with a minor-2nd degree. He was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, according to police.

Man Arrested for Intention to Meet with a Minor, Drugs

The Ashland Police Department says they arrested a man on Friday who planned on meeting with a teenager for sexual activity. Police say 41-year-old Brent Michael Wirzfeld was apprehended by several law enforcement agencies, accused of wanting to meet up with a 14-year-old child for sexual activities, and to supply the child with drugs. Agencies involved in Wirzfeld’s apprehension were the Ashland Police Department Cyber Crime Unit, the Criminal Investigation and Field Operations Division, and the Ashland Post of the Kentucky State Police. Wirzfeld was arrested and charged with prohibited use of electronic communication system to procure a minor for sex offense, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful transaction with a minor in the 2nd degree.

Local man injured in rollover crash

Local man injured in rollover crash Ashland Times Gazette VERMILLION TWP. Hayesville Fire Department and EMS, Ashland Post of the State Highway Patrol and the Ashland County Sheriff s Office responded Saturday to a single-vehicle rollover crash in the 2000 block of state Route 179. According to the State Highway Patrol, a 2008 black Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a Loudonville man was traveling northbound on state Route 179 when it traveled off the left side of the road in between a mailbox and pole, striking an old tree stump, going airborne and rolling over into a barn. The man was entrapped in his vehicle but managed to get out by himself. He was taken by Hayesville EMS to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center with unknown injuries and was cited for failure to control. The crash remains under investigation.
