Australia Post’s former chief executive Christine Holgate will receive $1 million as an employment termination payment following the controversial Cartier watch saga.
Ms Holgate and the federal government-owned company participated in a mediation on Friday July 23, before the Hon. Peter Jacobson QC, a former Justice of the Federal Court of Australia.
Former Australia Post boss Christine Holgate has revealed she has a new job after her scandalous departure from the company. Ms Holgate claims she was unlawfully terminated from her position as chief executive in November, after revelations senior executives were gifted Cartier watches, collectively worth about $20,000. Speaking on Today, Ms Holgate has confirmed she would head rival business Global Express in a few months. It was a big decision but you know, it is not a hard decision, Ms Holgate said on Monday. It is doing something I absolutely love, which is growing a business. It s a big national infrastructure business, so it s all about e-commerce and trade and they are things I m passionate about.

Ms Holgate told a Senate inquiry she was suicidal after the Prime Minister demanded she stand aside from Australia Post during an investigation into a purchase of luxury Cartier watches worth $20,000. Ms Holgate gave four staff members the watches after they secured a multimillion-dollar deal for the company in 2018. The revelations last year caused outrage despite Ms Holgate urging the importance of the investment.

The watches were gifts to four execs who d negotiated a $220 million deal to bring banking services to local post offices, a win for Australia Post and for local communities. She had authority to give bonuses of up to $150,000. And the treatment Ms Holgate endured during her removal from the chief executive s chair drove her, quite literally, to the brink. Thus what started out looking like an easy headline grab by the prime minister s office now looks more like a vicious and calculated political hit job - one that, fairly or not, will reignite criticism that Mr Morrison just doesn t get it when it comes to the treatment of women.
