Has there really been no warming of the planet in 22 years?

The Statement
Rowan Dean, Sky News host, January 19, 2021.
The Analysis
Sky News host Rowan Dean has questioned the evidence for climate change, citing temperatures drawn from satellite data to claim there has been no global warming.
However, experts say Mr Dean’s apparent “cherry-picking” approach misrepresents the climate data and relies on figures that don’t properly gauge worldwide temperature changes.
In a segment on January 19, Mr Dean – who has previously called climate change “the biggest hoax of them all” – claimed climate activists had “disappeared under the doona” during a cool Australian summer, going on to question whether global temperatures were increasing.
Victoria and NSW are still facing increasing bushfire risks this summer due to the growing likelihood of severe grass fires, despite recent wet weather and the vast amount of fuel burnt out by the Black Summer blazes a year ago.
Sydney: In a summer that was supposed to be unusually cool and wet, Australian builder Rob Lye did not expect to be trapped by a bushfire on sub-tropical Fraser Island and battling with his neighbours to protect their homes.
With climate change overriding some of Australia’s more moderating weather forces, scientists say wildfires like the one that tore through half of the island’s forest in recent weeks are increasingly likely.
“We just found a safe spot to settle and rest while the fire was burning,” said Lye, 52, of the island’s Happy Valley township.
“It wasn’t pleasant,” he said, adding that the local community, many of whom opted against following an evacuation order, saved all 50 or so houses before sheltering for safety as fire tore through the island on Monday.
