The West Australian government has flagged a judicial inquiry into Crown after the stateâs chief casino regulator stood aside over his friendship and fishing trips with senior staff at the companyâs gambling resort in Perth.
Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries deputy director general Michael Connolly stepped aside on Friday but only after media questioned his links to Crown staff.
Premier Mark McGowan said he would wait for the Gaming and Wagering Commissionâs report before taking any action in regards to Crown Perth.Â

President of the Telethon Kids Institute Jonathan Carapetis says Western Australians adapted “very quickly” to the sudden five-day lockdown.
Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan announced the lockdown for Metropolitan Perth and other regions last Sunday after a man tested positive for COVID-19 at a hotel quarantine facility.
“I’ve got to say Western Australians have been remarkable,” Mr Carapetis told Sky News.
The state had enjoyed ten months of no community transmission prior to the outbreak, now having recorded four consecutive days with no new cases since the infection was detected.
