Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is planning visits to India and the Philippines from late April through early May, government sources said Wednesday, with the envisaged trips subject to changes in view of the coronavirus situation.
With the visits, Japan seeks to reaffirm its cooperation with the countries over its vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region as China increases its maritime assertiveness.
President Donald Trump showered Scott Morrison with more than $10,000 worth of gifts during his time in office, far eclipsing what he handed out to Malcolm Turnbull.
The unique diplomatic keepsakes from American officials include a $3,700 framed map of the Coral Sea, a $3,700 model of the USS Canberra, a $3,000 calfskin leather photo album and a $1,200 Paul Revere silver Tiffany bowl.
The Australian Prime Minister was presented with the items when he travelled to Washington for high-level talks in September 2019.
Newly released declaration documents reveal that other members of President Trump s administration were also lining up to hand over gifts to Mr Morrison.
Australia and New Zealand’s ‘World-Leading’ Pandemic Response Brings Start of Two-Way Travel Bubble
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has attributed the establishment of a quarantine-free two-way travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand to each country’s success in managing the CCP virus pandemic.
“This latest major step in the resumption of international travel has only been possible due to the internationally recognised, world-leading responses to the COVID-19 pandemic by Australia and New Zealand,” Morrison said in a statement on April 6.
Morrison told reporters that both countries had not suffered the same types of virus impacts seen in other parts of the world.
Australians could travel quarantine-free to countries across the Asia-Pacific within months after New Zealand re-opened the border with its trans-Tasman neighbour.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Tuesday she would welcome Australian travellers without the need for quarantine from April 19.
Her Australian counterpart Scott Morrison later said he was in no position to say when the next two-way travel corridor would be opened.
But the federal government is already in talks to create more travel bubbles with other countries in the coming months - which could include Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Fiji and the Cook Islands.
Daily Mail Australia has listed below the countries Australians could soon visit if coronavirus vaccination rates increase and community transmission remains low.
