Australian fruits face delays at Chinese ports due to strict anti-virus inspections: sources

Australian fruits face delays at Chinese ports due to strict anti-virus inspections: sources Chinese fruit industry insiders and sources confirmed on Sunday that Australian grapes and other fruits are facing inspections and delays at some ports, as China takes strict measures to inspect imported fruits to stem the spread of the COVID-19 as the global pandemic intensifies again. It remains unclear when a backlog of Australian grapes waiting to be inspected will be cleared, but Chinese importers are already moving to reduce the proportion of Australian fruit due to low profits and worsened bilateral ties, while increasing imports from other sources such as New Zealand and Thailand.

OVERVIEW GLOBAL TABLE GRAPE MARKET

OVERVIEW GLOBAL TABLE GRAPE MARKET Namibia and South Africa are now shipping their table grapes to the European market, while the North American market is mainly supplied by Peru, Chile and California. At the beginning of the overseas season, Namibia and South Africa started remarkably late. This is currently resulting in a more limited supply of grapes in Europe and therefore higher prices. This is expected to change in January, when more table grapes will arrive and prices should stabilize. In North America, there seems to be a greater pressure on prices. In China there is a shifting demand from imported products to the domestic production.

Avocados set the PASE for export opportunity

Avocados set the PASE for export opportunity A $109,176 Australian Government investment is helping to streamline avocado industry export processes and assist growers with Japanese and New Zealand market access. Agriculture Minister David Littleproud said Avocados Australia Ltd has been awarded two grants under the Package Assisting Small Exporters (PASE) program extension. “Australian avocados are a significant horticultural industry renowned for its premium produce here and abroad,” Minister Littleproud said. “Australian growers produced 87,546 tonnes of avocados in 2019/20, two per cent more than the previous year, bringing gross value of production to an estimated $493 million. With volumes of exports on the rise and more opportunities for trade, the Australian Government is helping to ensure growers have access to modern, efficient export systems.”
