Gunman in Chili’s roof standoff attempts to escape custody at hospital, faces charges

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, MI – The suspect in a barricaded gunman incident over the weekend attempted to escape police custody while he was receiving medical treatment at a Lansing-area hospital.
The standoff stemmed from a two-vehicle crash with injuries around noon on Saturday, Dec. 12. One of the drivers, identified as 32-year-old Michael Roderick Stumpf of Okemos, allegedly fled the scene with a rifle in hand and barricaded himself on the roof of a nearby Chili’s restaurant in an out lot of the Meridian Mall, Meridian Township Police said in a news release. It turns out he was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle when the crash occurred.
