A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in a clash between two groups in Bayezid Bostami area of Chattogram city tonight.
The deceased was identified as Md Emon, son of Nur Kashem of Muktijoddha Colony in the Bayezid Bostami area, said Shah Alam, assistant commissioner (Bayezid Bostami Zone) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
Locals said the two groups were different factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
However, BCL Chattogram city unit General Secretary Zakaria Dastagir told The Daily Star that the deceased did not hold any post in any unit of BCL and claimed that the clash was not for political reasons but to establish supremacy in the area over occupying a piece of land.

Jailer Rafiqul Islam was attached to the Department of Prisons, said Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Md Mominur Rahman Mamun. Deputy Jailer Abu Sadat was reassigned to the Office of Deputy Inspector General of Prisons in Chattogram.

A Dhaka court today sentenced eight to life in prison, in a case filed for killing a man in 2008.
Judge of Dhaka Special Judges Court-5 Iqbal Hossain handed down the verdict against convicts Alal Uddin, Joynal Abedin, A Razzak, A Sattar, A Zabbar, Aual Mia alias Aual, Samar Ali alias Samar and Tamij Uddin alias Tamu. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve additional six months of rigorous imprisonment. The court also sentenced convicts Sohel Rana, Sohrab Mia, Babul Mia alias Babul, and Firoz Mia to one and a half years in prison under two separate sections of the relevant law.
The High Court today directed the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to submit charge sheets to the trial courts in two and half months in connection with 21 corruption cases filed against Iqbal Hossain Bhuiyan, managing partner of SD Survey Firm, and several others for their involvement with the BASIC Bank loan scam.
