God is a tough audience
Frank Skinner has written a book of prayers, to be published in April.
In the blurb for A Comedian’s Prayer Book, the comic jokes that ‘God is a tough audience’ for his invocations, ‘but at least you don’t have to explain the references.’
Publisher Hodder Faith say that Skinner ‘has tried to retain the bare candour of the rehearsal-room improvisation’ in the prayers, which address ‘his convictions, his questions, his fears, his doubts, his elations’.
‘Hell, Judgement, atheism, money, faith and the X-Men all feature,’ the blurb goes on. adding: ’It s a bit like reading the Bible, except you only get one side of the conversation, and all the jokes are left in.’
David Tennant up for acting award - but co-star Michael Sheen isn t
David Tennant has been nominated for an award for his role in BBC One s Staged – but his opposite number Michael Sheen has missed out.
The former Doctor Who star has made the shortlist for the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for best actor, both for his role in the lockdown comedy, and for playing serial killer Dennis Nilsen in the ITV drama Des.
Staged is also up for best comedy alongside Friday Night Dinner, Inside No 9, This Country and The Trip.
Inside No 9 creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are also nominated for best writer, alongside James Graham for Quiz, Michaela Coel for I May Destroy You, and the team headed by Steve McQueen for Small Axe.
