The event is expected to clear between 5.30pm and 5.45pm this evening (December 12).​ PART of the M61 has been closed after a crash which caused an oil spillage across the carriageway and damage to the central reservation barrier. One lane of the M61 southbound between junction 6 at Horwich and junction 8 at Chorley was closed to deal with the crash which was reported at around 11am this morning (December 12). Shortly after, Highways England tweeted that the full carriageway would be closed to deal with the spillage before they decided to open lane one to release traffic stuck behind the accident.  There has been a further update which says that lane three northbound has been closed due to damage to the central reservation.
