GREENSTONE, Ont. Greenstone Mayor Renald Beaulieu is appealing to residents of the sprawling municipality to do what s necessary to keep COVID-19 from spreading any farther.
As of Wednesday, there were 15 active cases in Greenstone and surrounding First Nations.
A breakdown of the communities was not immediately available, but on Tuesday there were seven cases in Longlac, seven in Long Lake # 58 First Nation, and two in the adjacent Ginoogaming First Nation.

A record-shattering day for COVID-19 cases in the district.
The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports 56 coronavirus cases today, 43 of those come from the outbreak at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, with eight at the District Jail.
It brings to 128 the number of active cases in the region.
In the meantime, the Northwestern Health Unit says there are now just 9 active cases in the region.

City yanking nets from outdoor rinks

THUNDER BAY – The City of Thunder Bay is removing nets at outdoor rinks, a move that has upset some in the hockey-playing community.
A change.org petition, started by John Falvo, has more than 75 signatures after being launched late on Wednesday.
“(Families) and kids need nets to use to get out and have fun and practice skills of the games,” Falvo said.

Fifty-one of the single-day record high cases are related to outbreaks at both the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre and the Thunder Bay District Jail.

THUNDER BAY – A record single-day high 56 COVID-19 cases have been reported by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
Forty-three of the cases are due to an outbreak at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, with eight more attached to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
One case is tied to the Valard East-West Tie project, with three more considered close contact and the remaining case pending.
The previous record for cases announced in a single day was 33, on Nov. 29.

“They’ve made recommendations we’re implementing as many as we can…extra living space..isolating and separating inmates who have symptoms,” says the representative for the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
