LONG LAKE 58 FIRST NATION, Ont.  The Chief of Long Lake # 58 First Nation says every resident of the community is on board with the lockdown that was imposed this week after several residents tested positive for COVID-19. Only essential services personnel are allowed to enter the First Nation, and the local school and general store are both closed. Chief Judy Desmoulins said she advised residents to be strong, and don t panic. We ll beat this. According to Desmoulins, four members of a family all tested positive as the result of close contact with someone who had the virus. However, none of them are showing symptoms.

One of the cases is related to close contact, while another is attributed to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario. Two are pending, while one is from Southbridge Roseview nursing home, where an outbreak that began in November has led to the deaths of 20 residents.

COVID-19 Case Load Rises Regionally

It says of those, one person got the virus after traveling outside Northwestern Ontario. Eight are from the surrounding area, one is from a District community. That brings the active case load to 54, it was 48 yesterday. Three people have had their diagnoses cleared. Four people are in hospital, one is in intensive care.
