Rome s art history and archaeology library reopens after petition

Rome s art history and archaeology library reopens after petition 12 Apr, 2021 Prestigious Rome library has been closed since Italy s first covid-19 lockdown more than a year ago. Rome s celebrated library of books devoted to art history and archaeology at Palazzo Venezia will reopen its doors on 13 April after an online petition garnered more than 6,500 signatures. The Biblioteca di Archeologia e Storia dell’Arte (BIASA), Italy s only specialised library dedicated to art history and archaeology on a national level, is the largest of its kind in the world and contains many volumes in English. The petition, addressed to Italian culture minister Dario Franceschini, was organised by CUNSTA (National University Council for the History of Art) which called for the reopening of the library with the utmost urgency, reports Artribune.

Italy Abolishes Film Censorship, Ending Government Power to Ban Movies

Italy Abolishes Film Censorship, Ending Government Power to Ban Movies Nick Vivarelli, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail Italy has officially abolished film censorship by scrapping legislation that since 1913 has allowed the government to censor scenes and ban movies such as, most famously, Pier Paolo Pasolini’s “Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom” and Bernardo Bertolucci’s “Last Tango in Paris.” The move which is symbolically important, though censorship is de-facto no longer practiced definitively does away with “the system of controls and interventions that still allowed the Italian state to intervene on the freedom of artists,” said Culture Minister Dario Franceschini who late Monday announced a new decree ending the government’s powers to censor cinema.
