India records 38,079 COVID-19 cases, 560 deaths in the last 24 hours

New Delhi: India recorded 38,079 new COVID-19 cases, which took the infection tally to 3,10,64,908, while the death toll reached 4,13,091 with 560 more fatalities, the Union Health Ministry informed on Saturday (July 17, 2021). India s active coronavirus cases have now increased to 4,24,025.  The Union health ministry said that active COVID-19 cases have decreased by 6,397 in a span of 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate stands at 2.10 percent. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.91 percent and it has been less than three percent for 26 consecutive days, the ministry said.

It was the second consecutive day that less than 100,000 new cases were registered. Besides, 2,219 deaths were registered since Tuesday morning, taking the total tally to 353,528. There are still 1,231,415 active cases in the country, a decrease of 72,287 in 24 hours. The number of daily active cases has been on the decline over the past few days, after a continuous surge since mid-April.
