Effective immediate allocation, and streamlined delivery to recipient States, Union Territories and institutions is an ongoing exercise, it said Nineteen oxygen generation plants, 11,321 oxygen concentrators, 15,801 oxygen cylinders and about 5.5 lakh Remdesivir vials received as global aid have been delivered or dispatched to various states and union territories from April 27 to May 16, the Centre said on Monday.
The government has been receiving international cooperation for COVID-19 relief medical supplies and equipment since April 27 from different countries and organisations.
Through a streamlined and systematic mechanism, various ministries and departments have seamlessly collaborated under the ‘whole of government’ approach for expeditiously delivering incoming global aid to states and union territories, the Union health ministry said.

Investing in upgrading a BSL-3 lab to make it fit for production will have uses beyond the manufacture of Covaxin. Going beyond the financial support it has provided, the government must step up assistance to Bharat Biotech to augment the capacity of its BSL-3 labs and vaccine manufacturing units.

Monthly production of Covaxin is expected to go up from 20 million doses at present to 60-70 million in JulyAugust, and to 100 million in September.
With a study in the peer-reviewed journal, Clinical Infectious Diseases, revealing that indigenously developed Covaxin is effective against all known variants of Covid-19, the government should make increasing its production a chief priority. The government can raise financial assistance to Bharat Biotech, either as grant or fully paid-up orders, it can help with upgrading existing manufacturing facilities outside Bharat

The CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru is ready to carry out COVID-19 tests through the newly developed dry swab RT-PCR method that promises quicker results, paving the way for ramping up testing when the rate of infection is high.
The method, developed by Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, which is also a constituent of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), had been approved by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).
