Joshua Lamar Woods, 30, of Desert Hot Springs was arrested shortly after the vehicle he was driving struck a steel pole on Indian Canyon Drive near Garnet Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Monday, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. His passenger, 30-year-old Laprea Hardister of Desert Hot Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene. Woods was arraigned at the Banning Justice Center before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for May 3 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
