Lewistown resident announces candidacy for school board Apr 14, 2021 LEWISTOWN Diane Stewart has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Mifflin County School District’s Board of Directors. Stewart, born and raised in Lewistown, graduated in 1977 from Lewistown Area High School and attended Shippensburg University where she earned her teaching certificate and her principal’s certificate. She has also earned a Master’s of Education degree from Wilkes University. Stewart began working for MCSD in 1981 and retired from the school district in 2019. Over those years, she was a classroom teacher in grades 3, 5, 6, 7, remediated students in grades 4, 6, 9, 11, and worked with high school seniors from Kish, Chief Logan, Lewistown, and the vo-tech (currently The Academy) through an on-the-job training program by placing seniors in the workforce.

Apr 5, 2021 REEDSVILLE Rose Marie Schulz, of Reedsville, has announced her intention to run for a seat on the Mifflin County School District Board of Directors. Schulz is a full-time working wife and mother with what she calls a “passion for volunteering and strengthening our public education system.” “As a candidate for MCSD school board, I feel it’s important to share what I have been involved in over the years,” Schulz said. “I was an active volunteer at (Indian Valley Elementary Center) for five years and served as board president for two years of the IVEC home and school association. I attended the annual PA Title I convention in 2016 and I’ve been a member of the district’s Local Advisory Committee since 2017. I have attended all school board meetings since January 2019 and continue to do so.

MCHS is the latest Mifflin County School District building forced to temporarily close due to having too many COVID-19 positive tests within it. On Monday, MCHS joined Strodes Mills Elementary School and Mifflin County Junior High School as schools forced to shutter for a few days just this week. The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology also had to temporarily close this week due to COVID cases among students and staff.
