Hyderabad: After Trinamool Congress (TMC) registered a landslide victory in West Bengal assembly polls, one would have expected the much-famed political strategist Prashant Kishor, who was majorly responsible for the party’s victory, to gloat. Especially since he had challenged the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that it would not cross double digit figures. And exactly that happened.

The West Bengal election results have demonstrated that despite the battering rams that BJP brought to bear against the Trinamool Congress fortress, the edifice, though a bit pockmarked, still stands strong. Its ability to withstand the concerted attacks from BJP requires some explanation, because TMC under CM Mamata Banerjee had entered this election sandbagged with weighty problems.
At the outset, after a decade in office, it faced the threat of anti-incumbency. Under her watch the state hasn’t clocked significant economic growth. In fact, during her second term in office the state saw an average growth rate of 5.5% against a national average of 7.1%.

Election strategist and chief of Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) Prashant Kishor said that he would quit the space of political strategy even after having helped the Trinamool Congress’ Mamata Banerjee in winning the West Bengal Assembly polls.
In December last year, he vowed to quit the social media platform Twitter if his prediction that the BJP would not win more than single digit MLA seats proved to be false. Now, the BJP is leading in 83 constituencies.
In an interview to an English news channel, he said that he had “no desire to continue in this space any longer”.
