INDIANAPOLIS â All of the four northeast Indiana counties are in the yellow rating for COVID-19 spread, said information provided by the Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday.
The ratings marked a departure from the previous few weeks as Steuben County finally moved out of orange. DeKalb, LaGrange and Noble remained in the yellow.
Overall, the state improved. Northern Indiana had been a hot spot due to its proximity to Michigan, which had been experience much spread of the coronavirus.
This week, there are no counties ranked red and only three are orange, down by 50% from the previous week. Two of the three remaining orange counties are in the upper third of the state and none border Michigan. There were 41 yellow counties this week, down from 45 the previous week. The offset came in the counties ranked blue, which increased to 48 from 41 the previous week.

A worldwide snapshot of the coronavirus pandemic as of May 17, 2020-2021 shows a lot happened in a year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US) and the World Health Organization, on May 17, 2020, there were 4,619,477 diagnosed cases worldwide, with 311,847 deaths reported.
The United States confirmed 1,467,065 total cases of COVID-19 and 88,709 reported deaths as of May 18, 2020.
In Clay County, Indiana, on those dates, there were 32 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with one death reported as of April 20.
A year later, COVID-19 in the United States, as of May 17, 2021, shows total cases at 32,753,426 and total deaths at 582,769. The World Health Organization provides global data (as of noon May 17, 2021), confirming 162,704,139 cases, including 3,374,052 deaths reported.

The Indiana State Department of Health on Sunday reported 913 new COVID-19 cases, the first time since Tuesday that daily cases have been below 1,000.
The seven-day moving average of positive cases in Indiana dropped from 1,043 on Friday to 1,024 on Saturday down from 1,057 a month ago.
The state reported 12 new deaths from COVID-19, raising the cumulative total to 13,003.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 increased from 917 on Friday to 924 on Saturday up from 792 a month ago. The all-time high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The health department reported the testing of 5,452 new individuals.
