A second-generation Indian American, Gupta spent many childhood vacations in various parts of the country, visiting with extended family. This time, though, she was focused on finding ways to surmount a huge challenge: the transmission, via breastfeeding, of HIV from mothers to their babies. Then, unexpectedly, another issue came to Gupta s attention.
