Highlights It said that that trade would not resume till India reverses decision on Article 370 New Delhi: In a dramatic U-turn, the Pakistani cabinet on Thursday (April 1) deferred the import of sugar and cotton from India. The Pakistani flip flop comes, even as on Wednesday, Pakistan s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet had given approval for import of white sugar from India up to 500,000 MT till 30th June and import of cotton till the same deadline. Restoration of special status for the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir has been a key issue for Islamabad vis a vis import of sugar and cotton. 

Peace with Pakistan will give India direct access to Central Asia: Prime Minister Imran Khan

Delivering the inaugural address at the launch of the two-day Islamabad Security Dialogue, Khan also said that his government after coming to power in 2018 did everything for better ties with India and it was for India to reciprocate. “India will have to take the first step. Unless they do so, we cannot do much,” he said. India last month said that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence. India has said the onus is on Pakistan to create an environment free of terror and hostility.

Onus on Pakistan to create conducive atmosphere for meaningful dialogue: India

In an address at a think tank, he said recent developments in Myanmar are a matter of deep concern , noting that India is working with the UN Security Council in a constructive manner to facilitate balanced outcomes that could assist in resolving the situation.
