Central Vista Project Off the Ground Amidst Opposition Squeaks and Court Demur The Beginning of the End of Delhi As We Know It
NEW DELHI: The architectural community in the city watches in horror as the Prime Minister rides roughshod over proprietary and due procedure to ram a project through the heart of Delhi.
Disaster in the making, that is what they describe the Central Vista project, the ambitious redevelopment plan for Lutyens Delhi which will result in demolition of the entire Lutyens zone as one knows it.
The foundation for this ill-conceived project was laid by PM Narendra Modi on December 10, in complete disregard of the fact that its legality has been challenged in the Supreme Court which has reserved its judgment after hearing all petitions.

bhoomi pujan, performed by Mr. Modi, marked the beginning of the project, construction will only start after the Supreme Court disposes of all challenges to the project that are pending before it. Ever since Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri announced the project in September 2019, activists, environmentalists, architects and Opposition leaders have questioned the need for the project, the processes for obtaining approvals for it and the costs involved.
The North East Festival, a popular event held in Delhi s Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts ever since its inception seven years ago, will be held in Guwahati, Assam this year of 2020.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will, on December 10, lay the foundation stone of the new parliament building in New Delhi, adjacent to the existing one, marking an important landmark in his controversial plan to redevelop the entire Central Vista area.
The move comes at a time when several environmentalists, conservationists and architects have raised questions around the necessity of the new structures and the Supreme Court has directed the Centre to stop all construction and ancillary activities in the historically significant zone.
