While some experts say that those with IUDs can use menstrual cups, it s understandable if you re still a little worried about the possibility of expulsion. Menstrual cups sit inside of the vagina to collect blood, and IUD strings hang through the opening of the cervix, so they are in fairly close contact when used together.
However, according to a new TikTok video from Jennifer Lincoln, MD, a board-certified ob-gyn, there are two things you can do to make wearing a menstrual cup when you have an IUD in place even safer.
First, Dr. Lincoln said to avoid using a menstrual cup with suction if you have an IUD. That suction may actually help the IUD come out. Instead, opt for a suction-free version, like the Nixit Cup, Dr. Lincoln said in the video.

Lady Sugg, a former Foreign Office minister, has challenged her onetime boss Dominic Raab to admit he is cutting the UK aid budget for girlsâ education by more than 40% as the foreign secretary also suggested UK bilateral aid to Africa would be reduced to a third of what it was two years ago.
She also claimed the government was planning to close its flagship Womenâs Integrated Sexual Health programme and impose cuts of about 70-80% to spending on the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition.
The news came on the day the UK prime minister, Boris Johnson, spoke to the Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta, about a girlsâ education fundraising summit they are jointly hosting in July.
