Reuters could not reach the spokesman for confirmation.
The Southeast Asian country has been in crisis since the military seized power from Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government on Feb. 1, with almost daily protests against the coup despite a lethal crackdown by the junta in which hundreds of people have been killed.

MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) - For some of those who encountered Derek Chauvin’s policing or witnessed his use of force as an officer there is no sympathy for the man convicted of killing George Floyd.

Chauvin was the subject of at least 17 complaints during his career, according to police records, but only one led to discipline. Prosecutors sought permission to introduce eight prior use-of-force incidents, but the judge would only allow two. In the end the jury heard none.
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced on Wednesday the Justice Department was opening an investigation into policing practices by the Minneapolis Police Department that would look at everything from excessive use of force, to whether it discriminates against people.
