Mechanic paid to look after $160,000 worth of drugs

Premium Content Subscriber only A ROSEWOOD mechanic who has previously been jailed for serious drug crime went before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday to finalise two remaining charges. Appearing from jail via-video link, Cheok Wong Foo, 33, from Rosewood, pleaded guilty to being in possession of the proceeds of a drug offence, involving $3400 cash, on December 9, 2018; and not having the legal authority to possess explosives (ammunition) at Rosewood. Legal officer with the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions, Andreas Galloway, said the Crown sought no further punishment because of the sentences already imposed. Mr Galloway said Foo was sentenced by the Supreme Court in Brisbane in July for drug offences, and was jailed for seven years.

Man charged with multiple offences after stealing TV

Premium Content Subscriber only LOWOOD police have charged a man after he stole a Hisense Smart TV from a parked vehicle. Lowood Police Officer-in-Charge senior sergeant James Bromley said a contractor’s vehicle was parked unattended outside a business in Lowood on Tuesday. A 28-year-old Lowood man entered the vehicle and stole the television, Sergeant Bromley said. Police identified the man using CCTV footage and executed a search warrant on his home and recovered the stolen TV. Sergeant Bromley said the man was charged with stealing along with other drug related offences and issued with a notice to appear. The man will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on January 21, 2021.

Man allegedly forced woman to drive him at knifepoint

Premium Content Subscriber only A MAN has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly threatening a woman with a knife and forcing her to drive him in her car to flee an Ipswich suburb. The 27-year-old was found hiding in the boot of a white BMW he allegedly forced the owner to drive at knifepoint in Augustine Heights by police on Wednesday morning. About 6.30am, police were called to Conlan Ct about a man acting suspiciously and trespassing in a number of properties. At one home, a 17-year-old boy told police a man had forced his way inside and allegedly threatened a 45-year-old woman inside with a knife.

Car boot accused remanded in custody after facing court

Premium Content Subscriber only A MAN has faced court after bing accused of threatening a woman with a knife before being found hiding in the boot of her BMW on Wednesday. In a brief mention before Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday, Joshua Charles Conlan was represented by lawyer Matt Gemmell. Joshua Charles Conlan, 27, from Kallangur, is charged with assaults causing bodily harm/when armed at Augustine Heights on Wednesday, December 16; deprivation of a liberty/unlawfully detain a female aged 45; enter a dwelling and commit serious offence in Conlan St at 6.30am on December 16; and robbery with violence/when armed. Mr Gemmell said Conlan did not seek bail and asked for an adjournment.

Police kick in doors, arrest 144 people after drug operation

Premium Content Subscriber only Detectives from Gatton Criminal Investigation Branch have arrested 144 people on 663 charges with police seizing amphetamines, cannabis and four firearms, after a six-month drug operation. Operation Greenstone started in July 2020 and targeted known drug traffickers operating within the Lockyer Valley and successful dismantled a drug distribution network. During the operation police from Gatton CIB, Laidley and Gatton stations, as well as Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad executed a number of search warrants in the Gatton and Laidley areas. Detectives from Gatton CIB charged two men and one woman with trafficking methamphetamine. Police located drugs worth about $29,000 and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime in search warrants associated with the trio.
