The veteran actress was discovered by her ex-husband, Aliu, in the 80s while working as a teacher in Kwara State.
Aliu had first noticed her and expressed his interest in her.
After visiting him on set, Orisabunmi decided to try a role in a movie he was producing. He found that she was gifted and gradually introduced her to the movie world.
She later appeared in movies produced by Aworo.
She first appeared on a stage play called “Ori Ma Binu” but it was her role as “Orisabunmi” in “Arelu” that shot her to the limelight in the 80s.

With poetic lines the president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as Mr Latin, has announced the death of one of the shinning lights of the movie industry, Chief Mrs Folakemi Aremu aka Orishabunmi.
The message reads:
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?
“It is so sad we lost a Priceless Jewel, a very rare gem in Nigerian Film Industry, Chief Mrs Folakemi Aremu aka Orishabunmi to the cold hands of death last night. She passed on at 61 after a brief illmess at 11pm, Tuesday 4th 2021.

Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) was on Wednesday thrown into mourning upon the announcement of the passing away of one of its icons, Folake Aremu, popularly known as Orisabunmi.
Orisabunmi died late Tuesday night after a brief illness at the age of 61.
TAMPAN president, Bolaji Amusan, expressed sadness over the death of veteran. He said Orisabunmi’s demise was a big loss to the entertainment industry and Nollywood in particular.
