NEW DELHI: In view of surging Covid-19 cases in India, Kuwait has indefinitely suspended all commercial flights from the country with immediate effect. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait has issued a circular, which says Indians can arrive there from some other country only if they have last spent 14 days outside India.
The Indian embassy in Bahrain tweeted: “All passengers arriving from India must carry negative PCR test report with a QR code conducted within 48 hours before departure.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency is reporting the country’s civil aviation agency has banned all flights to and from India and Pakistan because of the dramatic surge in coronavirus cases in the two nations.
ICMR to study use of drones for vaccine delivery
April 22, 2021 The Civil Aviation Ministry and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have granted one-year conditional exemption from the Unmanned Aircraft System rules to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to enable it to study feasibility of using drones for Covid-19 vaccine delivery in collaboration with IIT Kanpur. ICMR had sought an exemption from the rules that ban use of drones for payload delivery.
“These exemptions shall be valid only if all conditions and limitations as stated for the respective entities are strictly adhered to. In case of violation of any condition, the exemption shall become null, and void and action may be initiated by MoCA & DGCA,” the Civil Aviation Ministry said Thursday in a statement.
The FIP claims to represent around 5,000 pilots.
In a letter to Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Arun Kumar, the FIP said that these testing machines are often used on multiple individuals, some of whom may be infected without showing any symptoms.
During the pandemic last year also, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had temporarily suspended BA tests for all aviation personnel due to similar concerns. In the light of the unprecedented surge in Covid-19 cases nationwide, it is requested that Breath Alcohol Tests for aviation personnel are temporarily suspended across your jurisdiction, with immediate effect, to prevent the spread of infection - as was done by your office last year during the onset of the first wave of the pandemic,” FIP president Surinder Mehta said in the letter.

NEW DELHI: Air India pilots have requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to temporarily suspend breath analyser (BA) tests in the wake of surge in Covid-19 cases. The regulator had last March-end suspended these tests conducted by blowing into a tube to ensure the crew is not inebriated due to coronavirus following demands from pilots after one of them had tested Covid positive.
The tests were resumed last September with airlines asked to do random pre-flight BA for 10% crew operating domestic flights and 100% for international operations. This 10% was hiked to 25% on March, 2021, when Covid situation was improving.
