The decision comes amid plans to reopen international air travel from 26 December.

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka is on alert amid concerns that a new variant of the coronavirus is spreading much faster in parts of England, than the first-identified virus strain, Sri Lankan Army Commander Shavendra Silva said on Tuesday.
Silva, who is also the island nation s Head of COVID-19 prevention, said a study will be conducted by the Director General Health Services and other senior health officials, based on which a new action plan will be devised.

The Opposition leaders alleging that it had ‘communal motives’. The Haryana government’s proposal to rename the city’s civil hospital after late Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is mired in controversy with the Opposition leaders alleging that it had “communal motives”.
Rechristened as “Nagrik Hospital” four years ago along with all civil hospitals in the State, it was earlier known as “Badshah Khan Hospital” after prominent leader Abdul Ghaffar Khan.
A letter from Director General Health Services, Haryana, to the Chief Medical Officer, Faridabad, earlier this month says Chief Minister Manohar Lal has desired that Civil Hospital, Faridabad, be renamed “Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee Hospital, Faridabad”.

AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine
Uganda has applied for more than two million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as the number of cases in the East African nation tops 25,000. The Ministry has quantified and applied for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine through the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi) and the process is at an advanced stage, privately-owned Chimp Reports website quoted the Director General Health Services, Henry Mwebesa, as saying. This is a vaccine (AstraZeneca) which government is aware has gone through World Health Organisation clearance and approval. It is important to note that only vaccines approved by the Ministry of Health and WHO can be administered to the population of Uganda, Dr Mwebesa added.
