PET pooches in Cumbria are being asked to come forward to give blood to help save the lives of dogs across the country. Pet Blood Bank is calling for dog owners in Carlisle to come forward and help top up the doggy blood bank. Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a blood bank service for all vets across the UK. And, Vets4Pets Carlisle is running the blood donation session on Thursday, May 6, and happy, confident dogs are needed to come along and help. The blood bank is just like the human blood service, but for dogs.
“I keep telling everyone about how brave he was. It all went so well.”
Ms Tomlinson, of Inverurie, said canine donors are usually needed once or twice a year at the town’s Donview Vet Centre.
The dogs have to be big and healthy so she signed up one-year-old Baxter, who weighs around six stone.
He’s such a good boy, I’m really proud of him.

Last month, Ms Tomlinson was on shift when little Meryl was rushed in and needed surgery to survive.
The vet then raced home to collect her four-legged friend.
Dog owners are being asked to take their pets to donate blood in Hexham this weekend. Charity Pet Blood Bank UK have partnered with Hadrian Vets, on Dene Avenue, to host their first collection day in the town this Sunday, February 7 and are calling for dogs to come forward. Pet Blood Bank collect blood donations from donor dogs across the UK which then go towards helping to save the lives of other dogs in need. Every donation a dog gives can help to save the lives of up to four other dogs. The charity, which launched in 2007, is the only one that provides a blood bank service for all vets across the UK.
