Reveals how late GOC 6 Division died

The Nigerian Army Sunday said there was no foul play in the death of the late General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Major General Olubunmi Irefin.
The Nigerian Army Headquarters said contrary to rumours and conspiracy theories peddled around, the late general died of complications arising from COVID-19 after spirited efforts to save his life.
A statement signed by Army Spokesman, Brigadier-General Sagir Musa, gave a detailed account of efforts made by army authorities to save him leading to his last minutes and eventual demise.
“The sudden death of Maj General JO Irefin is no doubt a great loss to the Nigerian Army (NA), his family and the country at large. In view of the fake news, unnecessary and wicked insinuations that started emanating from unknown group or individuals, the NA wishes to inform members of the public the sequence of events that led to the death of the late senior officer.

At least 18 Nigerian Army Generals have tested positive for COVID-19, military sources said yesterday.
The infected military officers, according to Channels Television, were said to have had contact with the late Maj. Gen. Olu Irefin who died from COVID-19 complications last week.
According to the sources, the affected senior army officers were attendees of the 2020 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Abuja, from where they were suspected of contracting the virus.
Besides, Irefin was said to have visited some of his colleagues at home before he attended the conference.
Thereafter, all the officers who attended the conference, their wives, and other members of their families who live with them, have been directed to isolate themselves for a week by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The Nigerian Army says 26 of its personnel tested positive for COVID.
It was disclosed on Sunday night in a statement signed by Brigadier General Sagir Musa, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations.
In the statement, 417 personnel have been tested and 26 results came out positive.
The test was conducted following the death of Major General GO Irefin, who was killed by the virus last Thursday while the actual cause of death was reported as respiratory failure, secondary to COVID-19 infection.
